Bleach – Cursed Life Fades

Bleach’s “Cursed Life Fades” is a love letter from Indonesia to the H-8000 scene at turn of the millenium. And from the haunting descent of the title track to the bone-crushing breakdowns of “Greed” and “Silent Kill”, the album excels in crafting a world that feels both personal and apocalyptic. The band’s ability to blend metallic hardcore with an unusual vocal approach gives the EP a distinct presence that sets it apart from the sea of heavy-hitting hardcore bands. The guitars are riff-filled, the drums batter with precision, and the lyrics reflects the band’s frustration with ills of mondern-day society.

The atmosphere is thick with despair, and the pacing is deliberate. Bleach doesn’t rush. Instead, they drag you into their world, ensuring every breakdown, every riff, every scream lands with weight. Songs like “Gerbang Kelam Abadi” and “Eternal Unbound” are sonic manifestations of a world under pressure and a society strained by inequality.

For all its strengths, “Cursed Life Fades” doesn’t always break new ground. It wears H8000 and metalcore influences proudly on its sleeve, and while the execution is impeccable, there’s a sense of déjà vu for anyone well-versed in the Undying, Prayer for Cleansing, or Heaven Shall Burn discographies. The vocals, while unique, can feel a bit one-dimensional at times, and the songwriting, though strong, doesn’t always surprise. Additionally, the EP’s brevity (clocking in at just over 18 minutes) leaves you wanting more. It’s tight and focused, but a few more twists or experimental moments could have elevated it from great to unforgettable.

“Cursed Life Fades” is a solid, well-crafted EP that delivers on its promise of metallic fury and atmospheric dread. It’s not revolutionary, but it’s executed with precision and passion, making it a must-listen for fans of old-school metalcore and H8000-style hardcore. If Bleach can push their sound further on their next release, they might just carve out a legacy of their own.
