Review: BLACK BIRCH – BLACK BIRCH

Review: BLACK BIRCH – BLACK BIRCH

This one’s a fucking banger.

Swedish duo Black Birch takes no prisoner during the twelve songs of their debut album “Black Birch”. Taking their bold statement Antifascist & Vegan into account, we’ll have one of the best black metal releases of 2024 at our fingertips, which also takes an important poltical position in a genre that way too often leans into right-wing bullshit.

Black Birch play melodic, yet brutal black metal and incorparate elementes of crust and post-metal into their sound. “Soil” adds a Fall Of Efrafa vibe to the sound, while “Fallen” showcases relentless melodic black metal.

There’s anger, even fury, woven into every song. The primary voice is full of it, while the second voice occasionally adds despair into the mix.

Black Birch show their craftmanship throughout the whole album, making every song unique while maintaining a shared identity. “Black Birch” is an emotional heavy record and grabs the listeners attention from start to finish. This is how black metal has to be!
