CELESTE fuckin’ delivered @Hannover – June 14th, 2024

Celeste have been a force to be reckoned with ever since their inception. Every record is a fuckin’ example of precise black metal and their live shows are none the less precise and efficent examples of acoustic nihilism.

The show wasn’t sold out, btw, which was odd given the band’s popularity (which even increased after their move to Nuclear Blast two years ago). Celeste started very motivated into their set and had an incredibly crisp sound. The song rolled over the audience and set them in motion, headbanging and (northern Germany style) dancing included. But after the first few minutes, the band stopped and talked shop with the sound guy after trying to explain the problems to the audience in a highly interesting interpretation of the english language. The dudes are touring the world for more than a decade and their english is still very french….

The french quartet started their summer tour cycle at the legendary Glocksee at Hannover, the legendary alternative spot. It’s always a pleasure to hang out in this left wing refuge. I skipped the semi-local opener and decided to chill and watch the people working and living at Glocksee go about their business.

All problems got solved after a few minutes break and the black metal onslaught continued. Celeste played on point and blasted banger after banger through the P.A. A bit more fog would have helped to enhance their signature red headlights, but that was the only minor complaint about that show.

All in all, Celeste proved once again their class. Black metal how it should be. Chapeau!
