Review: Crawl – Altar of Disgust

Bands churning their songs out with the trademark HM-2 sound will always win my heart. Crawl – who claim legendary death metal capital Stockholm their home – flavour their worship of classic Entombed and Dismember-style death metal with hints of crust and punk (“Enslaved in Filth”). Unsurprisinly, the songs are raw and straight to the bone, supported by a solid production.

I really enjoyed songs like “Until they crawl”, which is a hell of a groove monster, and the uptempo “Knives”. “Enslaved in Filth” surprises with traces of black metal, while “Into sordid Rifts” beats everything down.

The dudes have been active in other bands, most noteably the mighty Demonical and Decomposed. Their experience and skill shows in the songwriting: “Altar of Disgust” offers a solid 30 minute attack and never gets boring. It’s rock solid from start to finish, offers good riffs, and the uffta-drumming we all love.

In the end, “Altar of Disgust” is an entertaining record for those who can never get enough of good old Stockholm Death Metal or who enjoy a solid sonic assault wrapped in HM-2 sound.
