Review: INNER SANCTUM – The Great Odd Ones

I’m always amazed by the sheer number of metal bands flying under the personal radar. Take Inner Sanctum: the dudes have been active since 2006 and dabble in death metal, but I haven’t heard of ’em until this year.

On the other hand: “The Great Odd Ones” is their first release after eight years. It’s easy to see why awareness of an underground band might slowly decrease over such a long time.

The band used the time to hone their skills. The guitar work is very nice; on point and with much variation, even though a few more leads would be nice for a stronger melodic death metal feel. Shouter Kolai delivers a top performance and adds another layer of variation into the songs. The addition of clean sung parts move the sound into viking metal, which suits the overall atmosphere nicely . Drums and bass benefit from the meaty production and build a solid foundation in every song.

Nine songs, all on a high level, cool artwork, strong production: if you’re into death metal, make sure to check “The Great Odd Ones” out!
